Science, Consciousness and Peace in the Era of Global Transformation
The Office of the Registrar of the International University of Fundamental Studies (IUFS) is pleased to formally announce that the 20th World Scientific Congress (WSC 2026) will be held from 28–30 November 2026 at the prestigious Governors Hall, Smolny Institute, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, a historic academic venue associated with significant cultural and institutional heritage.
This landmark 20th edition of the World Scientific Congress represents one of the most established and continuously organized international academic initiatives of IUFS. Over the years, the Congress has developed into a respected global platform that brings together scientists, professors, researchers, educators, diplomats, healthcare professionals, innovators, and institutional leaders who share a common commitment to advancing science, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting global peace.
For nearly two decades, the International University of Fundamental Studies has consistently organized the World Scientific Congress as an international forum dedicated to the advancement of science, education, research, culture, and humanitarian collaboration. Throughout its history, the Congress has served as a bridge between academic disciplines and international institutions, fostering dialogue and cooperation across borders.
Among the most significant milestones in the history of the World Scientific Congress were the 7th and 8th World Scientific Congresses, both hosted at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNO Headquarters), Palais des Nations, Switzerland. The 7th World Scientific Congress, held from 5–7 September 2016, was organized in association with the International Higher Academic Council (IHAC) and the Ararat International Academy of Sciences. The 8th World Scientific Congress was subsequently convened at the UNO – Palais des Nations, further strengthening IUFS’s international academic profile and its commitment to promoting global scientific dialogue.
These Congresses provided an important international platform where distinguished scientists, professors, researchers and academic leaders exchanged knowledge and discussed the future direction of scientific research, higher education, innovation, peace, and sustainable human development. The deliberations emphasized strengthening international scientific cooperation, supporting future generations of researchers, encouraging interdisciplinary research, and promoting science as a driving force for peace and human progress.
The upcoming Congress is expected to bring together representatives from approximately 48 countries, including internationally recognized academics, scientists, university leaders, researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, ambassadors, members of the diplomatic community, and distinguished guests.
According to the organizers, the programme is expected to include the participation of professors associated with organizations within the United Nations system, together with internationally renowned scholars, scientists, university presidents, and research leaders from around the world, creating a unique global forum for academic dialogue and scientific cooperation.
The central theme of the Congress, “Science, Consciousness and Peace in the Era of Global Transformation,” reflects the belief that scientific progress must extend beyond technological advancement and must also contribute meaningfully to ethical responsibility, human development, and global peace.
The scientific sessions are expected to address a wide range of contemporary fields including medicine, education, artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability, social sciences, global health, innovation, ethics, and international scientific cooperation. Through these discussions, the Congress emphasizes that the true purpose of science is realized when it serves humanity by improving quality of life, strengthening cooperation among nations, and fostering peaceful coexistence.
A major highlight of the Congress will be the keynote address delivered by Prof. Shanti Jayasekara, President of the International University of Fundamental Studies. His address will focus on the essential connection between scientific advancement and global peace, highlighting that sustainable progress can only be achieved through ethical leadership, mutual respect among nations, and strengthened international cooperation grounded in shared human values.
The International University of Fundamental Studies continues to promote international higher education, scientific research, academic cooperation, and professional development through its academic programmes, research initiatives, scientific congresses, and global partnerships.
According to institutional information, more than 15,000 students and graduates from around the world have completed bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and other academic programmes through IUFS initiatives, reflecting the institution’s broad international engagement and educational outreach.
As the organizer of all twenty editions of the World Scientific Congress, IUFS continues to strengthen its role as an international platform for scientific excellence, global academic networking, intercultural dialogue, and peaceful cooperation among nations through education and research.
As IUFS prepares to convene the 20th World Scientific Congress 2026, the University reaffirms its commitment to building a future in which science serves humanity, education strengthens international friendship, and global cooperation contributes to lasting peace and sustainable development.
