

A group of Sri Lankan traditional medical practitioners has been awarded Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Alternative Medicine and Ayurveda by International University of Fundamental Studies (IUFS) at a convocation ceremony held in Sri Lanka.
The recipients include Nissanka Appuhamilage Amila Roshan Sanjeewa, Meewala Arachchige Thusitha Deshapriya, Premarathne Silvester Benadict Mary Filomina, Unguwa Widana Rallage Sujeewa Kumari, and Mohamed Abdulla Shaffi Ahamed Abdul Rahman.
All awardees are highly experienced traditional medical practitioners with more than 20 years of professional practice in traditional medicine, Ayurveda, patient care, and community health service. The honorary degrees were conferred in recognition of their outstanding contributions to preserving Sri Lanka’s indigenous healing knowledge and promoting holistic healthcare.
IUFS stated that the awards recognize the important role traditional medical practitioners play in advancing Alternative Medicine and Ayurveda for future generations.
This recognition highlights the growing international appreciation of Sri Lanka’s traditional medical heritage and its contribution to healthcare, community well-being, and cultural preservation.
